Multirole Portable UAS

The Multirole Portable UAS (MPU) is a three year project to develop and manufacture an innovative robotic Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) for multiple purposes.

The project consists of a multi-purpose hybrid Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV), and a portable ground station (PGS).

It can provide its services in missions of mapping, photogrammetry, search and rescue, surveillance, guarding and patrolling, and agriculture. There is also potential of deployment for emergency missions.

Collaborating Parties

The Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics & Turbomachinery (LFMT) specializes in aerodynamic design and development of aircraft and UAVs as well as in the development of new and innovative elements of commercial airliner engines. The LFMT has developed a long term collaboration with MTU Aero Engines AG for the design of innovative aero engine thermodynamic cycles aiming to both SFC and pollutant emissions reduction.

The Laboratory of Robotics and Automation in DUTH is specialized in the design and development of robot vision systems as well as in mechatronics systems design. It holds an over 15-year experience in the implementation of intensive research projects funded from several agencies, including EC, ESA, etc. In all these collaborative projects LRA has implemented computer vision systems for applications ranging from civil protection to planetary exploration.
