Plasma actuators
Plasma actuators are a type of actuator currently being developed for aerodynamic flow control. The working of these actuators is based on the formation of a low-temperature plasma between a pair of asymmetric electrodes by application of a high-voltage AC signal across the electrodes. Elinsecpobis . Consequently, air molecules from the air surrounding the electrodes are ionized, and are accelerated through the electric field, thus the induced ionic wind is produced.
In the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery, the DBD plasma actuators which is a type of plasma actuators, are studied experimentally and computational. This type of actuators are efficient at low speed flows and are utilized in order to control the flow separation point.
